The Victoria Sponge Bake Month is well and truly up and running with a wonderful weekend of festivities and fundraising for VP.
The Field & Country Fair
Our weekend of fundraising kicked off on Friday at the Field and Country Fair, in the beautiful setting of Cornbury Park, Oxfordshire. This pristinely laid out, lavish exhibition would play the scene to trustee’s Cj and Alex and Charity Secretary Lauren pitching Tea and cake to every unsuspecting passer-by that ventured within a 20 meter radius of their VP stand. Armed with 200 Mini cakes baked the night before by Lauren and 1000 Herbal tea bags, generously donated by Tea Pigs, they set about selling at £2 a cup & £2 a cake. The three over the course of the three days managed to raise £1675 in funds for the charity. We would like to again thank Lauren for her hard work over the weekend and her beautiful cakes. A massive thank you to Trustee and show director Fiona Eastman for getting the pitch for us, and for putting on a most spectacular show that was hugely enjoyed by both exhibitors and visitors alike.
The Trew's Tea Party & Hartley Wintney Village Fair
The Trew's Tea Party
Come rain or shine the determined tea party team took to the Long Sutton cricket pitch for an afternoon of cakes. The ideal event for anyone with a sweet tooth the day bought together all generations showing their support for Victoria’s Promise. With three marquees set up it was a mini VP cake festival…we’ll be looking for bands next year! With hugely generous donations from all who attended and a successful raffle orchestrated by Lorraine Bland, Caroline Trew and Penny Brooks (the three musketeers on the day pictured above) the afternoon raised an incredible £1319. A huge thank you to Nick Trew, David and Jo Hamilton, and Alison Trimmer for their great help in setting up the party, to Lorraine Bland for being an all-round enthusiastic star and to the two chief organisers of the day Penny Brooks and Caroline Trew for their super organising, logistics and cycling far and wide to deliver invites- you were brilliant. Not forgetting a giant THANK YOU to all who bought cakes and came to help bake a difference in the battle against cancer.
The Hartley Wintney Village Fair
The fantastic people of Hartley Wintney came and supported VP for the 3rd year this weekend. Armed with tasty treats the stall was hard to resist for Victoria Sponge lovers. We would have been in a bit of a jam had it not been for the great bakers, tasters and helpers on the day. A huge thank you to Abi Barnett and Lani Charman for their great help and cake donations, Hannah McKenna for her great help, ongoing support and enthusiasm, Anita Winberg for being an ongoing superstar, and bringing daughter Havana to be our youngest stall tender, Caroline Trew for her sales skills bribing everyone around the fair to buy a slice and to Sam Vallance for her super involvement, support and generous donations. We raised an awesome £434. A big thank you too to our superstar volunteer Gerda for all her organising efforts before the day.
